Rainfire
rain hits the roof
a target on the mark
again and again
tiny liquid bullets
aimed at ears
brain and heart
reaching senses
through and through
again and again
until the last bullet hits
finally silence then
after the quiet moment
rainfire starts again
piercing ears, brain, heart
I am rainfire
through and through
again and again
A little storm just came through.
Simple words put to thoughts of rain
hitting the roof, hard at first, then a trickle,
then complete silence, only to start all over again.
then complete silence, only to start all over again.

Life in the Woods, Walden
![]() |
| We can dwell in Walden literally or figuratively, and even in our dreams |
It is the wildness of the woods and the freedom of them that draws me to them. They are the last accessible frontier and we all have one.
Walden, in fact, does not require a wood at all. Walden is everywhere... a neighborhood park to feed the ducks, a small backyard to watch the birds and feel the wind, steps that open to the morning sunrise or evening sunset. That wildness and freedom we seek out are randomly everywhere you seem to look.
A life in Walden
Is what I love most.
Is what I love most.
I want to surround myself
With the wild open air.
With the wild open air.
The wind and rain.
To fly like a sparrow.
To fly like a sparrow.
To hear a songbird's chorus.
Let me take all of it in
As the days go by.
As the days go by.

Pearls For the Girl of June
Translation:
June rose ~
To crown it all
They bring her health
Pearls, for the girl of June
Means wealth~
I simply cannot live without June.

The Beautiful Kind

| Art by Daniel F Gerhotz |
While I walk the clay,
I'm going to steal
some earthly beauty.
Tuck it away deep in my heart.
When the time comes,
I'll sneak it into heaven.
Some things can't be given up
when you cross the stars.
I'm going to steal

Tuck it away deep in my heart.
When the time comes,
I'll sneak it into heaven.
Some things can't be given up
when you cross the stars.
seeking lovely things
reaching for praiseworthy things
hoping for things that are good
I Know A Kitty
![]() |
| Art by Vinnie 1982 |
His matted hair was shaved away
He swatted and hissed to no avail while
The groomer just fastened a cat cone
To conceal
The angry cat who finally gave way now
Those mats are gone all brushed away
As evening wore on I wondered if
That kitty would stay in his daytime tiff
I should have realized, I should have known
All was forgiven by the time we got home
For as soon as he was carried into the house
He cozied up and told me all was well

A Poet to the Last
“We need much less than we think we need.”
“When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.”
“If I insist on being pessimistic, there is always tomorrow. Today I am blessed.”
“Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.” (last tweet)
"The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them"
― Maya Angelou

I Am Emily
“{Nowhere did seem to be home}
And I broke my heart with weeping
To
come back to {the moors};
And the angels were so angry
That they flung me out
into
The middle of the heath
On the top of {the moors};

Moon Watchers
To watch bejeweled fairy dances at twilight,
To gaze at trees in the moonlight and dance with them,
Tall in the shadows and free in the open night air.
An ache to touch the stars who
Offer their dull low light to night watchers,
A hidden nightlight for the un-sleeping,
A hidden nightlight for the un-sleeping,
Who stand nearby like wallflowers,
Watching the moon cross the open sky.
Watching the moon cross the open sky.
Take the chill away from moon watchers.
Nothing quenches the hollow ache,
But un-sleeping open woods.

Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall
I read on the House in the Roses blog, now The Little White Cottage blog something that will forever change how I look at mirrors ... she says that she places mirrors in her home and thinks of them as "moveable windows" that she can place at whim.
I absolutely adore the idea of this! What a beautiful thought that we can create a window wherever we are at. Windows are for reverie, thoughts, and dreams.
I only wish the Lady of Shalott had been able to move her "window"and see something else other than what led her to her fate. Another beautiful thought!

"I awoke in the house of God (earth)
Where the windows are mornings and evenings
Stretched from the sun
Across the sky north to south"

A Tiny Facelift
I am experimenting with new banners, ...the tiniest of facelifts, ...that still conveys what I hope this blog is about ... love of nature and my words.
I think I like it so far. We will see.
I think I like it so far. We will see.
One of my favorites from Arthur Rackham ~ Feeling Undancy - almost made the banner!
And now having made slight changes, I can't decide which one I like best ...
More changes ... Update:
The one I have up now is up for awhile.
I like how the words are like clouds or tree branches
Stretched across the banner.
Settled.
