The Nightlight

she sat and stared east,
wondering where all of the,
patterns had gone in the sky.
for now it was only blue,
the deepest blue there was.
she went on this way for minutes,
that felt like years,
just staring into the blue.
but something made her move,
and she turned to look west,
as the sun set.
it was then she saw patterns,
the bird streaking invisible lines,
layers hanging in the sky,
filled her eyes,
and the clouds framed the sliver moon,
just at the right moment,
when just a moment before,
it had been flipped on as a,
nightlight by the One,
who watches those who
watch His sky.
and the nightlight shone in the sky.

Spending Time With the Moon

I've always had a serious and introspective soul. I remember being 13 years old, sitting on my bed and contemplating life quite seriously. Even back then I needed time to myself to soak it all in.

Having a dark-horse-soul, which is something I just made up, I've always been given to spending time with the moon, watching butterflies float by, weaving deep-end thoughts, taking rambles in the woods, and so on. I hate being this way sometimes, but it is who I am.

In my bookish life, I am always drawn to characters who are melancholy, troubled, and morose ... like Michael Henchard in Hardy's, "The Mayor of Casterbridge," Anne Shirley in, "Anne of Green Gables," and Jean Val Jean in "Les Miserables."

In the real world, I stare at the moon often and listen to the chatter of birds. I can be chatty and loud in life, but more often than not, I prefer stillness.

"I am a warrior of quiet." ~ Brooke Schmidt

It's in the quiet time that thoughts spill out and I start to understand who I am.
Who I was made to be.
I'm learning to accept it, one day with the moon at a time.

Forward Motion

Mud, thick and dark,
Threatens, willfully,
To stop me in my tracks.
I'm learning,
To see the mire first,
Before getting caught up,
In the thick.
Sheer will and determination,
Will get me through,
The thickest part,
To forward motion.

Look Up (Again)

"I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow,
It's cloud illusions I recall.
I really don't know clouds at all."
~Joni Mitchell
