Joy

"Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet
and the winds long to play with your hair."

Kahlil Gibran
This is one of my favorite quotes and I was reminded of it as I stepped outside a little while ago, and my hair got caught up in the lovely windstorm that was brewing. I will never tire of the wind, be it a cold winter blast that takes me off guard with it's bitterness, or an exhilarating spring or fall tempest that sweeps me away. I get caught up in it every time, ...it's as if the wind is calling my name to come out and play.
The trees become my cohorts, ...those gentle giants that sway back and forth with delight, as they gracefully bend to and fro - they get caught up every time, too, and are surely clapping their hands in mirth.
In these moments, I am a beautiful bird who was made for nothing more than ascending to the heights where the currents await me. Joy.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Isaiah 55:12

  1. Oooh. Nice. You know what this post makes me think of? It reminds me of the scene in Bright Star where Fannie feels the joy of discovering her love for Keats, and she opens her bedroom window and the wind sweeps across her while she lays smiling. It was a visual depiction of what was happening internally. But I think wind brings joy also because it grabs our attention and makes us focus on the world outside of us, and we feel like we're being swept into something much bigger than the small problems that we mull about in our lives. And that verse was so powerful. I also believe that the elements and the natural world truly do praise God, and something in us instinctively recognizes that, and something in us wants to leap up and praise God with the wind as it blows around us! Amazing post.

  2. I will have to re-watch that scene from Bright Star. I agree with you, and really liked your comment, about how the wind grabs our attention to something bigger than ourselves - excellent!, ...and yes, it really does do that.

It is easy to forget sometimes the amazing things that are out there and that we miss because we are caught up in our daily "stuff."

Thanks for "getting" this post...always good to hear your comments - thanks!

  3. Wonderful post. I have often watched as the trees seem to move the music I am listening to as the wind blows. It's as if the wind is playing a tune that the trees must dance to. I always think of that verse from Isaiah also when the wind is making the trees particularly lively. There is some lovely poetry in that Great Old Book.

Out of curiosity, why are there no comments enabled on your current posts? Just wondering.

  4. Thank you Grace! I appreciate your comment.
Taking comments off was just a personal preference. You never know, I may bring them back one day.
